Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI) are delighted to be working with the North East Derbyshire District Council (NEDDC) to support businesses who would like ideas on solving a particular problem or developing innovative ideas.

Businesses from all sectors with ideas on reducing costs, streamlining processes, developing new products or enhancing the skills of staff are invited to come along and have a chat over coffee. Whatever the nature of your company, you have the opportunity to talk with one of Sheffield Hallam specialist consultants and advice will be offered on how best to reach a solution that's best for your business.

Sheffield Hallam consultants

Dr Nick Farmilo is Business Development Manager and brings experience in research, sales and technology transfer, allowing him to easily identify how MERI's research knowledge and expertise can be used to provide solutions to commercial problems. During his time at MERI, Nick has played a key role in developing the institute's research portfolio, and in promoting consultancy and knowledge transfer programmes. Nick leads the Corrosion Team within MERI and is currently supporting the work of five PhD students.

Nicholas Pickett is Subject Group Leader for Mechanical, Materials and Design and teaches advanced engineering part and assembly modelling in CAD, detailed product performance analysis using FEA and technologies to rapidly bring new products to market. He is a champion for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and actively supports local engineering companies solve and develop solutions to challenging engineering problems. Research interests are in digital prototyping, FEA and mechanical engineering education.
