Email BMRCProf Nicola Woodroofe attended the European School of Neuroimmunology (ESNI) meeting, held in Amsterdam at the Vrije Universiteit Medical Centre from 16-19th July. The aim of these ESNI courses is to provide researchers with an educational programme, spanning from basic immunology to clinical neuroimmunology, including updates of new developments in the field.
Nicola Woodroofe is on the ESNI committee and had quite a number of roles at the school, including chairing sessions, organising the MCQ sessions at the end of each day, and chairing and judging poster presentations. A ‘Pecha Kucha’ style presentation was introduced, where students do a presentation with 20 slides which are timed to move on every 20 seconds - lots of practice is needed to succeed! Around 90 students from all over the world attended and delivered brilliant presentations, with the majority of them having English as second language. The winner was awarded a €500 prize, so quite an incentive!
There was also the opportunity for students to see a human brain dissection as well as a microscopy session. Unfortunately, the 'party' night BBQ was rained off so changed from an outdoors to an indoors event.
