On Monday 17 June 2019 Sheffield Hallam University hosted the Creating Knowledge Conference bringing together research from across the University.

Several BMRC staff and PhD students gave talks as part of the conference: lecturer Dr Chris Whiteoak gave a talk entitled ‘Efficient construction of complex cyclic compounds employing metal catalysis’, while PhD students Alex Knowles and Oana Voloaca presented their work around ‘Periodontopathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis modulates stress granule formation and composition in oral epithelial cells’ and ‘Novel diagnosis technique for identification of asbestos fibres in mesothelioma samples using LA-ICP-MS imaging’ respectively. Both doctoral student talks were chaired by Prof Simona Francese.

PhD student Paul Mardling presented his work "Learning from Nature: Auxetics in tissue engineering" having been selected as a Doctoral Showcase Finalist.
