Exploring visual languages in the communication of telecare and health technologies.

Telehealth and Care Technologies is a core theme of Collaboration in Leadership for Applied Research and Healthcare (NIHR). The overarching aim of this theme, led by the University of Sheffield, is to produce a step change in knowledge and practice in the design and use of telehealth and care technologies in services that are effective, cost-effective and are usable by the broadest possible range of people.

Paul Chamberlain is a co-investigator on the five-year project and will lead the development and implementation of novel user centred research methods with a focus on the study and use of non-text based visual languages in relation to communication, comprehension and experience in user groups who have limited ability to read and comprehend (English) language in order to design, develop and test prototype inclusive interfaces.
