International soccer training programme keeping Sheffield's footballing legacy alive

Thursday 06 April 2017

Did you know the World's First Football Club, Sheffield FC, was established in 1857? It is now a semi professional football club with a unique history and a remarkable global identity which celebrates Sheffield as the birthplace of Association Football.

Sheffield Hallam University has enjoyed a long standing partnership with Sheffield FC which has led to a number of footballing students to secure professional contracts with the club.

Now, a new project, which will be run in joint partnership between us, Sheffield FC and Massive Soccer – a football training academy in Florida, will recruit students from the United States to take part in a soccer training programme.

Successful students will spend an academic year studying at Sheffield Hallam University while they experience English football culture first hand from The World's First Football Club.

The students will undertake a football development programme including strength and conditioning training from coaching staff from Sheffield FC. They will also have the opportunity to take the Football Association (FA) Level 1 and 2 Coaching Football Certificates.

The Massive Soccer UK Programme will launch this September and is currently open to applicants from the United States.
