Fashion graduate wins prestigious award

Wednesday 01 April 2015

Sheffield Hallam graduate Kelly Redhead was given a Young Entrepreneur award by the Duke of York this week.

Kelly launched her design company KMR in December 2013 and her bridal wear has featured in Vogue.

The awards are presented annually to students and graduates that have created a business or social enterprise. The business must demonstrate commercial or social impact, and have potential for sustainability and growth.

24 year old Kelly graduated from the University in 2013 with a first class degree in fashion design. Her final collection Forging Heritage, featuring stainless steel accessories, was chosen to open the end-of-year student fashion show.

Reflecting on her time at Sheffield Hallam, Kelly said: "My time at SHU helped shape the designer I am today. The course allowed me to undertake a three-month placement and enter the Bridal Buyer 2013 national competition in which I was a finalist.

"These experiences, alongside the support from staff members and excellent facilities, have given me the confidence and experience to progress in my career in the fashion industry."

The Young Entrepreneur Awards was launched in May 2013 with an award presented to one student from each of the ten universities in Yorkshire.
