Award certificates and transcripts

This page details important course documents and how you can order replacements. It includes information on:

Award certificates

Award certificates are formal documents that confirm the award you’ve achieved. They typically include:

  • Degree or award received
  • Course subject
  • Overall result, including classification if applicable
  • Date of the award

Only one award certificate can exist. A replacement document can only be ordered if the original has been lost or damaged.

Recent graduates

If you haven’t received your original award certificate and it's been less than a year since you finished your course, please check the 'My Certificate and Graduation' page on My Student Record.

This provides further information on your certificate and how to order one.

Those who graduated after 1992

If you graduated after 1992, you can order a replacement certificate from our Online Store.

If in doubt, contact our Certificates Team at certificates@shu.ac.uk

Those who graduated in or before 1992

If you graduated in or before 1992 from Sheffield City Polytechnic, you need to contact the awarding body directly.

For Undergraduate or Postgraduate certificates, please visit the Open University website and type "Duplicate Certificate" into the search box.

For BTEC, HNC and HND award certificates, please visit the Pearson website and type "Replacement Certificate" into the search box.

Results transcripts

Results transcripts are official documents that detail the modules you studied and the marks you achieved during your course.

Details of the award you gained will also be included.

Results Transcripts are produced on official University transcript paper and are affixed with a Sheffield Hallam University date stamp.

An award verification is an official letter confirming the basic details of your course and award. It is only provided in a digital format.

Course syllabus breakdown

A Course Syllabus document contains an overview of the course and syllabus studied at Sheffield Hallam, including a programme outline and module information (where available).

WES form documents

The World Education Services (WES) offers an international credential evaluation to help graduates gain employment in the US or Canada.

To support your application, we can send documents directly to WES via a secure file transfer process.

There is no charge for this service.

To do this, please email a scanned copy of your award certificate, transcript and WES form to the Certificates Team at certificates@shu.ac.uk.

Award certificate attestations

We can verify a copy of your award certificate and academic transcript by affixing them with an official Sheffield Hallam University date stamp and the signature of the Director of Academic Services.

There is no charge for this service.

Please note:

  • We cannot stamp original certificates
  • We can provide up to 5 copies
  • We can provide electronic copies and/or hard copies
  • We will verify photographs of your documents so long as the images are clear and legible

To verify your documents, please email a scanned copy of your certificate and academic transcript to certificates@shu.ac.uk.

 

References

Academic references

Academic references relate to details about the course you studied, your mode of attendance, your study dates, and the details of any award you achieved.

Personal references

These references relate to your abilities, character, and attendance and engagement with your course. Typically, you should ask a member of staff who knows you to provide this.

To obtain a personal reference, contact the member of staff directly. If you do not have the relevant contact details, please contact hallamhelp@shu.ac.uk.

Agencies and Prospective Employers

Agencies and prospective employers can request an academic reference at the Higher Education Degree Datacheck.

After registering, they can verify your degree in real-time by selecting Sheffield Hallam from the list of UK higher education institutions and choosing the "Verify Now" option.

Enquirers are charged a £14 fee per enquiry.
