Dr Ricardo de Sousa PhD, MSc, BA (Hons)
Senior Lecturer in Sport Business Management
Summary
I am a Senior Lecturer in Sport Business Management. My research areas include, but are not limited to, the inspiration of attending major sporting events, event impacts and event leveraging. I teach on a variety of modules, including enterprise, event management and international sport event management, across different courses which range from undergraduate to postgraduate.
About
Upon completion of a Sport Coaching and Sport Development degree at Southampton Solent University, I completed an MSc Sport Business Management degree at Sheffield Hallam University. Following this, I worked in education, sport coaching and sport facility management. Subsequently, I wanted to pursue a PhD in the area of sport events, and as a result applied and gained a scholarship through the Sport Industry Research Centre (SIRC) at SHU which I completed in 2019/20. During my PhD, I was an Associate Lecturer for both SHU and the University of Derby, before being offered a full-time position at Birmingham City University (BCU).
At BCU, I taught on the Global Sport Management and Event, Venue and Experience Management undergraduate and International Sport Management postgraduate courses. These included a mix of both online and face-to-face lectures and seminars. I was involved in module development and content creation.
I returned to SHU on a full-time basis and have delivered on different roles including Level 4, Level 6 and SBM Project Lead. Additionally, I was given the opportunity to take on course leadership of the MSc Sport Business Management course. I am research active and have presented at the European Association for Sport Management Conference 2023.
