About

I am Dr. Ra’ed Bani Abdelrahman, a dedicated Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering and Computer Science, driven by a passion for making a positive impact in the realms of academia, research, and industry. With a Ph.D. in Software Engineering from Loughborough University, UK, earned in 2019, I bring over a decade of experience to the field.

My academic journey began at Yarmouk University, where I obtained my MSc in Computer Engineering - Embedded Systems in 2012 and my BSc in Computer Science and IT in 2008. Throughout my career, I have held various academic positions in renowned universities and educational institutions across the United Kingdom, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

In my role as a Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, I actively engage with students in courses such as Advanced Programming, Foundations in Computing, Introduction to Software Engineering, and Introduction to Technical Computing. My teaching philosophy revolves around creating an engaging and supportive learning environment, combining theoretical concepts with practical applications to empower students for success in the dynamic digital landscape.

Prior to joining Sheffield Hallam University, I held leadership positions such as the Dean of Information Technology and Sciences and Director of the E-Learning Centre at Ajloun National University. In these roles, I successfully led distance learning initiatives and provided training to staff on effective technology utilization for online education. Mentoring and guiding students through their academic journeys to achieve their research and career goals has been a fulfilling aspect of my career.

My research interests span modelling critical systems, AI, cybersecurity, and authentication. I actively contribute to the academic community through research publications in esteemed conferences and journals. Noteworthy projects include work on AI applications in fault diagnosis, formal methods, mathematical modelling, and internet protocols and security. Leveraging my expertise in formal methods and model checking, coupled with experience in embedded systems, I strive to enhance the reliability and security of software and systems.

Outside the classroom and research, I am actively involved in external activities, fostering collaboration and contributing to the broader academic community. Professional networking, attendance at conferences, workshops, and seminars, as well as serving as a reviewer for prestigious journals and conferences, are integral to my commitment to staying at the forefront of advancements in the field.

My interests are diverse, covering critical systems, AI, cybersecurity, and authentication.

1- AI in Fault Diagnosis and Signal Processing:

I collaborated in a research focused on leveraging artificial intelligence techniques for fault diagnosis and signal processing in rotating machinery. Our comprehensive review, published in the "Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence" journal, delves into advancements in image-based intelligent techniques for induction motors.

Publication: AlShorman, Omar, et al. "Advancements in condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of rotating machinery: A comprehensive review of image-based intelligent techniques for induction motors." Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence 130 (2024): 107724.

2- Learning and Memory under Stress:

Collaborating with a team, we conducted a review study on learning and memory under stress, evaluating various techniques. The findings are published in the "Systematic Reviews in Pharmacy" journal.

Publication: Alzyoud, Abdelhadi, et al. "Learning and memory under stress: a review study with evaluation techniques." Systematic Reviews in Pharmacy 12 (2021): 1602-1610.

3- Formal Methods and Model Checking:

My expertise in formal methods and model checking is evident in projects such as the specification of synchronous network flooding in temporal logic. This work, published in the "International Arab Journal of Information Technology," contributes to the field of formal methods.

Publication: Ra'ed Bani-Abdelrahman, Rafat Alshorman, Walter Hussak, Amitabh Trehan: Specification of synchronous network flooding in temporal logic. Int. Arab J. Inf. Technol. 17(6): 867-874 (2020).

4- Concurrent System Networking Protocol Specification and Verification:

In collaboration with colleagues, we developed an efficient concurrent system networking protocol specification and verification using linear temporal logic. This research is published in the conference "Cyberspace Data and Intelligence, and Cyber-Living, Syndrome, and Health."

Publication: Ra’ed Bani Abdelrahman, Hussain Al-Aqrabi, and Richard Hill. "An efficient concurrent system networking protocol specification and verification using linear temporal logic." Cyberspace Data and Intelligence, and Cyber-Living, Syndrome, and Health. Springer, Singapore, 2019. 149-168.

5- Signal Processing for Asthma Diagnosis:

I have worked on a signal processing approach for the diagnosis of asthma from cough sounds. This research, published in the "Journal of Medical Engineering & Technology," explores innovative methods for medical diagnosis.

Publication: Al-Khassaweneh, Mahmood, and Ra’ed Bani Abdelrahman. "A signal processing approach for the diagnosis of asthma from cough sounds." Journal of medical engineering & technology 37.3 (2013): 165-171.
