Rachael Clayton RN (Child), BSc (Hons)
Lecturer
Summary
I have been a Lecturer in Children’s nursing here at Sheffield Hallam since 2017. My background in Children's nursing and student nurse education has given me a passion for supporting and nurturing our nurses of the future.
About
I began my healthcare journey in 1997 working in adult services, specifically surgical care and care of the elderly. I then began nurse training in Sheffield in 2003 and qualified as a Children’s Nurse in 2006. I spent the majority of my career specialising in children’s orthopaedics at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Throughout my career I have developed a strong passion for education. I became clinical nurse educator in orthopaedics and plastic surgery in 2015, where I had a role in both ward and trust level education, however my primary responsibility was to focus on the development of our student nursing placement. I then became the practice placement advisor for Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust in 2016.
I joined the team at Sheffield Hallam in 2017 as a Lecturer in Child Nursing. I currently teach into a variety of Children’s Nursing and Interprofessional health and social care modules. I am also academic advisor to a number of Child Nursing students.
