Paul Parry

Dr Paul Parry PhD FHEA

Subject Group Leader for Applied Computing

Summary

Paul is member of the Department of Computing at Sheffield Hallam University. He has a deep passion for teaching software development, programming and creating videogames. Paul discovered computer programming at school when he was ten years old, and after graduating with a degree in software engineering, then a PhD in requirements engineering, he went on to become a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam.

Paul is the Subject Group Leader for the Games and Artificial Intelligence Subject Group, providing strategic direction for a dedicated and highly enthusiastic team of game developers and AI specialists. His passion for programming and teaching programming to students has never diminished. Paul teaches advanced C++ but can equally teach C#. He is well versed in the principles of software engineering and computer science, and often illustrates how these underpin the languages and techniques students apply in his practical programming classes.

Paul is leading on an important University initiative known as games@hallam. This is a University-wide project to promote and develop the use of videogames across a wide range of subject areas. This work involves creating a recognisable brand representing the use of games across the University, promotion of the University’s games courses and their use in teaching, as well as developing collaborations with external organisations and industry partners.
