Dr Nichola Wiliams PhD, MA, MBA, BSc

Summary

Nichola teaches within the Economics and Finance Division at Sheffield Hallam University. She is a highly motivated, confident, and articulate professional with extensive experience as a teaching assistant and lecturer in Economics. She also brings three years industry experience and training working as Economists in Guyana.  

She is a dedicated team player and passionate advocate for youth education, committed to fostering a strong foundation in economic principles among learners.

About

Dr. Nichola Williams is a Lecturer in Economics at Sheffield Hallam University, where she has been teaching for the past two years, specialising in Economics and Finance. With extensive experience in higher education, she has delivered courses in Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Quantitative Methods, Statistics & Data Modelling, and Intermediate Financial Management. She is passionate about educational empowerment, child health and education, teamwork, and fostering positive change for future generations. She has also contributed to academic initiatives, including serving as a PhD RF2AP Assessor at Sheffield Hallam University.

Her research interests encompass Development Economics, Child Health and Education, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics for Economics, and Health Economics.

Nichola holds a PhD in Economics and an MA in Finance and Economics from Newcastle University, an International MBA from Beijing Normal University, and a BSc in Economics from the University of Guyana, where she graduated with distinction.

Beyond academia, she brings valuable industry experience, having worked as an Economist at the Guyana Forestry Commission for three years. Additionally, she served as a Part-time Lecturer at the University of Guyana for four years, further enriching her teaching portfolio.
Nichola has also contributed to student development and research activities, including her role as a Mathematics for Economics and Statistics for Economics Tutor at Newcastle University and a Student Representative for Newcastle Economic Research Development (NERD). Her leadership experience includes coordinating the NERD Conference 2022 and presenting her research on early childhood health and weather shocks at the InSaNE Workshop. She has also received a Royal Economic Society (RES) Grant for COVID academic support and participated in NASA’s Applied Remote Sensing Training Program.

Nichola is committed to advancing research, teaching, and academic leadership, making significant contributions to the economics discipline while mentoring and inspiring future generations of economists.
