Summary

I am a Senior Lecturer in International Business and Business Economics at Sheffield Business School, Sheffield Hallam University. I deliver International Strategy modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Sheffield Hallam University, and am also the module leader for a first-year introductory economics module. My research interests include understanding the causes of banking and wider financial crises. I have also pioneered the use of electronic mind maps to support the teaching of economic theory, and the electronic content that I have created is available on The Economics Network website. I have previously delivered postgraduate and undergraduate strategy modules at the University of Sheffield, and an undergraduate strategy module at Nottingham Trent University.

Research

I have written articles explaining how commercial banks create new credit money as a consequence of issuing loans (https://www.economicsnetwork.ac.uk/archive/starkey_banking/), and factors likely to produce a future international banking and wider financial crisis (https://www.economicsnetwork.ac.uk/archive/starkey_banking2#:~:text=When%20increases%20in%20money%20supply,likely%20to%20be%20inflationary%20consequences).
I have also created electronic mind maps to support the teaching of economic theories (https://www.economicsnetwork.ac.uk/archive/starkey_mindmaps/) and strategy theories (https://www.economicsnetwork.ac.uk/archive/starkey_strategy_mindmaps/).
