Dr Laura Blakemore MBChB, MRCPCH, DCH, FHEA

Senior Lecturer in Advancing Clinical Practice

Summary

I am a paediatrician by background and now work within the Advancing Clinical Practice team.  I co-module lead on Non-Medical Prescribing, in addition to teaching onto several other Advancing Clinical Practice modules including Advanced Physical Assessment and Consultation Skills, Managing the Acutely Unwell Patient, Minor Illness Management, and Advanced Paediatrics.
My areas of interest include paediatrics, equality and diversity, and simulation.

About

I originally qualified as a medic from The University of Sheffield in 2008.  I went on to train as a paediatrician, completing my membership exams and a postgraduate diploma in child health.  During my training I completed a year out of program experience focusing on simulation training in Yorkshire and Humber.  I also completed a PG-Cert in Medical Education as part of this.  Following my return to training I became involved in the development of HEE SuppoRTT (supported return to training) programs, including the creation of a baby-friendly seminars series.

My passion for education led me to academia and I joined Sheffield Hallam University in 2020.  Since then I have worked within the Advancing Clinical Practice team, co-module leading Non-Medical Prescribing, and teaching onto a range of Advancing Clinical Practice modules.  I also actively teach onto the Physician Associate MSc, as well as supporting undergraduate nursing sessions.
