Dr Jonathan Potts PhD, MMath, PgCTLHE, fHEA

Senior Lecturer and Course Leader of the BSc (Hons) Product Design Engineering

Summary

I teach predominantly Aerospace Engineering subjects and also Engineering Design, my primary area of expertise is experimental aerodynamics. I lead undergraduate modules in Aircraft Design, Flight Mechanics and Simulation, Instrumentation. I also lead design build test projects in wind tunnel design and rolling road systems development. I supervise undergraduate and postgraduate project work in flow control systems, formula student aero package development and spin-stabilised sports equipment. I lead our BSc (Hons) Product Design Engineering course striving towards a vibrant industrially-focused student experience.

About

I am presently involved with various projects related to active flow control research for improved aircraft wing efficiency applications. I am collaborating with our Centre for Sports Engineering Research to investigate shuttlecock and throwing dart aerodynamics and dynamics. I continue my research into spin-stabilised sports projectiles currently focused on the discus from field athletics.
