Irfan Madani

Dr Irfan Madani BEng, MSc, PhD, MRAeS, MAIAA, FHEA

Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering

Summary

Irfan joined Sheffield Hallam University in January 2019 and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering. Irfan received his MSc in Flight Dynamics from Cranfield College of Aeronautics and a PhD in Flight Navigation and Guidance Systems from the University of Sheffield.

Irfan's areas of expertise are avionic system design/aircraft design, flight navigation and guidance and CNS/ATM.

About

Irfan has more than four years’ experience in the aircraft industry working in aircraft flight testing for flight control, hydraulic and landing gear systems before he became an academic, involved in teaching aircraft systems, satellite-based navigation and inertial systems for some years and research in radar system, aircraft guidance, navigation and control, and flight trajectory optimisation.

In his previous positions, Irfan was a Technical Specialist for Cranfield University task-team, working on the EU Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative and as the Technical Manager of Cranfield's Tasks for Management of Trajectory and Mission WPs in the programme. From 2016 to 2018, he was also involved as a Senior Technical Researcher in EU's SESAR Exploratory Research Projects: AGENT and PARTAKE. He was also the Course Director of Aircraft Engineering MSc programme at Cranfield from 2014 to 2018.

During his time at Cranfield, Irfan had supervised many MSc projects in avionic systems as well as several PhD students in the area of airframe systems and avionics.

Irfan is a member of Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and Fellow of HEA (FHEA).
