Summary

I teach across a range of modules within the Sheffield Business School, including business environment, principles of investment, risk management and investment and advanced portfolio management. My work involves teaching at Level 4, 5, 6, and 7, I find it to be particularly rewarding to help students progress through the various levels of study. I am also module leader for the risk management and investment module. In addition to my academic work, I am a practising independent financial adviser, running a small business together with my business partner. This involves giving professional advice on finance, lending, investments, pensions and insurance. I find that this can provide useful real life experience to bring to the various courses on which I teach. I have 19 years experience in the finance industry, 16 of these as an independent adviser. I have professional links with the Financial Services Authority (FSA), the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and Sheffield Life and Pensions Society, I am also the chief examiner for the IFS School of Finance L5 insurance module. About

I teach across a range of modules within the Sheffield Business School, including Principles of Investment, Risk Management and Investment, Client Advice, Wealth Management & Investing and Advanced Portfolio Management. My work involves teaching at Level 4, 5, 6, and 7;  I find it to be particularly rewarding to help students progress through the various levels of study. I am also module leader for the modules detailed above. 

I am the Course Leader for the three Postgraduate Finance Courses at the University and a Collaborative Course Leader for our strategic partner Botswana Accountancy College. Postgraduate teaching interests include supervising Dissertation students and being an Academic Advisor.

I was the chief examiner for the IFS School of Finance L5 insurance module until January 2018 and I am currently the chief examiner for the CISI Applied Wealth Management Unit on the Chartered Wealth Manager pathway.

In addition to my academic work, I have recently retired as a practising independent financial adviser, having run my own business together with my business partner. This involved giving professional advice on finance, lending, investments, pensions and insurance. This industry background provides invaluable real life experience to bring to the various courses on which I teach. I have 27 years’ experience in the finance industry, 24 of these as an independent adviser. I have professional links with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), Chartered Banker Institute (CBI), Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) and Sheffield Life and Pensions Society.
