Course Leader for MSc Advanced Clinical Practice

Summary

I have been involved in Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) since 2011 and have seen many improvements to the governance and education surrounding it.  The development of training pathways and support for Advanced Practitioners is my main area of interest and one which I am heavily involved in as part of this role.

I also support the work of our Associate Head of School as well as the Module Leaders and students on our course. A large part of my role is working with our stakeholders in practice to support students and ensure we are continually developing our module structure and content. I work closely with the Apprenticeship Course Leader to support employers, supervisors and students involved within those pathways too.

I work within a great team here at Sheffield Hallam. Our Advanced Practice Team consists of colleagues from diverse backgrounds and expertise, which enables us to provide excellent support and specialist input for our students.

About

I am a nurse by background and qualified on to Critical Care in 2005. The care of the acutely unwell has always been my passion in clinical practice and is something which still interests me to this day. I have worked as the lead nurse specialist for difficult asthma which is where I began my advanced practice journey. The majority of my time as an ACP has been within acute response and Out of Hours teams in secondary care. The ability to manage a deteriorating patient autonomously is something which I love, and is the reason why I enjoy imparting this knowledge to others.

I joined the Sheffield Hallam team in 2022 as a secondee and joined full time soon after as a Senior Lecturer. I am module leader for the Non-Medical Prescribing Module and Apprenticeship Portfolio, whilst also teaching across other modules under the ACP Portfolio.

Being a part of the ACP Team at Sheffield Hallam has offered me many development opportunities. I have spoken at an international level, as well as at conferences nationally and regionally.  I am an External Examiner for Liverpool John Moore University and the University of Chester. I also work as an Independent Assessor for the End Point Assessment for The University of Hull.
