About
I joined Sheffield Hallam in 2022 on a part time secondment from my frontline role as an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) for Looked After Children in local authority Children’s Social Care.
I qualified as a social worker almost thirty years ago. I was awarded a Diploma in Social Work from Anglia Polytechnic University in 1994. I teach across different courses and modules and act as a tutor and academic adviser to students on the BA, Masters and the Degree Apprenticeship.
I worked for over ten years as a frontline child protection social worker before moving into training and development, where I held managerial roles in the private and public sectors. I have recently worked as a practice consultant mentoring newly qualified social workers before accepting my current role in 2020. I am registered with the profession’s regulator, Social Work England.
In 2018 I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management for Social Work at the University of Sheffield.
Originally from Dublin, I completed a BA in History at the University of Dublin, Trinity College (1989), and for the past 25 years I have lived in Sheffield.
