About

Before joining Sheffield Hallam University as a Senior Lecturer in Science Education in 2004, I worked in Secondary Education for twenty years. I taught at four different comprehensive schools in South London and South Yorkshire. In 2007 I took over as Course Leader for the Secondary Science PGCE courses before assuming the position of Subject Group Leader. In my time at Sheffield Hallam University I have helped to establish strong links with local schools and enhanced the placement provision for students on both the PGCE and undergraduate science education routes and have also established a successful science education team. During the last five years I have helped to support the revision of the structure, content delivery and assessment of the Secondary Science Teacher Education courses, resulting in more successful outcomes for the students and improved feedback.

I have been in my current role of Phase Leader for Secondary Teacher Education since September 2012 and this is allowing me to become more involved with the Teacher Education Leadership Group. As Phase Leader for Secondary Teacher Education I am responsible for the co-ordination and management of work planning for the secondary age phase. I ensure that members of staff are effectively deployed in order to achieve the objectives of the department and that they are in place to deliver on associated programmes. My duties also involve supporting career development, overseeing appraisal and matching expertise to need within the secondary age phase.

I look forward to having a greater insight into and influence on the decision making processes within the department. I also act as a subject tutor for Teach First
