About

Emma is a Research and Innovation Officer within the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) and has been with the centre since 2003.

Her role involves supporting project teams in the delivery of contract research, but mostly, her role involves managing data security across the centre. Emma was appointed as Data Guardian in 2015 and as such regularly liaises with the University’s Data Governance team, Digital Technology Services, Legal Department and the CRESR Director to ensure data security standards are maintained. This role includes:

  • Managing data processing agreements for research projects.
  • Ensuring data is handled in accord to the University Privacy Policy and that data is destroyed at the end of projects.
  • The application and adherence to the NHS Toolkit and any other data security systems like Cyber Essentials.
  • Auditing of internal processes and systems.
  • Training CRESR staff on best practice.

She also supports the centre's project administration, day to day financial matters and has an excellent knowledge of financial regulations and systems. Emma also provides administrative support across CRESR for research ethics applications and manages conferences for research projects and the centres annual People, Place and Policy (PPP) conference.
