I have worked in the aviation industry for over 40 years starting in the aircraft manufacturing sector, then airline operations, aviation management consultancy and latterly as General Manager for Fujairah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates.
I am passionate about the aviation industry and very keen to pass on my extensive industry experience through teaching on aviation courses.

2021 – date  Senior Lecturer  – Sheffield Hallam University – Sheffield, UK
Accepted position with Sheffield Hallam University to strengthen the growing aviation management team in the Sheffield Business School to deliver teaching aviation related modules.

2012 – 2021  Acting General Manager – Fujairah International Airport – Fujairah, UAE
Advanced to General Manager role to lead the management team of 10 and staff of 400 to effect a turn round strategy for an international airport in the shadow of Dubai airport. Created business targets, management objectives and conducted regular management and project management team meetings to measure business performance and oversee the development of the runway extension, new second runway, new ATC Tower and  expansion of the airport.

2008 – 2012  Strategy and Business Development Manager – Fujairah International Airport – Fujairah, UAE
Joined Fujairah International Airport as Strategy and Business Development Manager in order to apply consultancy, project management and business development skills to an international airport facing declining traffic and operational difficulties. Developed viable strategies for safe, secure and successful operations.

1998 – 2008  Managing Consultant – BAE Systems,  CS&S International – Chorley, UK
Founder member of the Aviation Management Group, specialist aviation consultancy whose primary objective was to generate and deliver aviation related consultancy projects. The group contributed in developing beneficial client relationships involving problem definition, solution generation, project inception and implementation in the field of civil air transport. Significant government and industry client relationships were developed in support of delivering economic offset commitments in civil air transport.

1997 – 1998  Freighter Operations Support Manager - British Aerospace Aviation Services – Filton, UK
Responsible for creating and managing A300 Freighter Operations Support ensuring customer requirements for load capacity and loadability were achieved. Primary activities include the provision of technical support to current and prospective freighter customers and the development of the operating capabilities of the A300B4F in collaboration with customers, design and regulatory authorities.

1996 – 1997  Senior Operations Support Engineer - AI(R), Aero International Regional – Toulouse, France
Successfully selected to transfer to Toulouse and form the new Operations Support team of AI(R) working with French and Italian counterparts in an international environment providing operational support to all Avro, ATR and Jetstream products. Activities included customer interface on all operational aspects of aircraft in service with customers throughout the world, specialising in airfield performance analysis, weight and balance loading aids and interpretation of technical manuals and documentation.

1988 – 1996  Senior Operations Support Engineer – British Aerospace (Avro/Jetstream) – Woodford/Prestwick, UK
Responsible for providing operational support to the customers of the Avro RJ series and 146 aircraft,  complete range of Jetstream turboprop aircraft (J31, J32, J41) as well as HS748 and ATP. Primary activities included airfield analysis, aircraft performance, delivery of dispatcher and aircraft performance courses and route economic studies. Customer accounts include Air Malta, Lufthansa Cityline, Sabena, Air Foyle (TNT), Air UK,  Air Wisconsin, British Airways, Manx, Loganair, SATA, Biman Bangladesh, Merpati Indonesian, Air Swift, Sun Air and Gemini Aviation.

1981 - 1988 Initial Projects Engineer - British Aerospace – Woodford, UK
Undertook propulsion studies for future aircraft. This involved liaison with powerplant manufacturers, data acquisition, analysis and production of powerplant data for aircraft performance analysis. Gained experience in aerodynamics, aircraft performance analyses, acoustics, VAX computing and FORTRAN language.
