Summary
Andreea is a Lecturer in the Department of the Natural and Built Environment. Prior to joining Sheffield Hallam University, Andreea worked as a structural engineer for the AMEY plc. consulting, following her Marie Curie Fellow research role at The University of Sheffield.
About
Andreea holds a PhD in Civil and Structural Engineering from The University of Sheffield. Her main interest is in the field of rehabilitation of concrete structures using innovative materials. She is particularly interested in limiting the impact of strengthening strategies on the natural environment whilst ensuring a safe and economic implementation. During her years in Industry, she was involved in surveys, structural analysis, design checks and feasibility studies for a variety of structures for private clients as well as Local Authorities.
Teaching
Andreea teaches across all levels in the Department of the Natural and Built Environment, as well as supervising research projects. Her main teaching involvement is in the areas of 'Structural Appraisal of Existing Buildings', 'Pathology', 'Structural Strengthening', 'Evaluation of Construction Technology' and 'Non-destructive Testing and Evaluation'.
Research
Andreea has had extensive involvement in international research networks such as: the "European Network for Composite Reinforcement" En-Core and the European COST Action TU1207 “Next Generation Design Guidelines for Composites in Construction”. She is a member of Task Group 5.1 “FRP Reinforcement for concrete structures” of the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib).
Her current key research interests include:
- the durability prediction of FRP-to- concrete bond
- the enhanced performance of bamboo as reinforcement in temporary concrete structures
- the use of FRP stitches for masonry/concrete crack control
