Alison Subramanian BSc (Hons), PG Dip Advanced practice, PG Dip Healthcare Ed

Senior lecturer in advanced clinical practice

Summary

Hello, I am Alison and I have worked at Sheffield Hallam University since 2019 for the advanced clinical practice team. I am the module lead for Minor illness management and I teach across some of the other modules attached to the ACP MSc.

About

I qualified as a nurse in 1999 and worked at a local hospital for 10 years, mainly in the emergency department where I worked as an emergency nurse practitioner. I moved into primary care in 2009 and trained as an advanced clinical practitioner, which is where I currently work, two days a week.

My move into education happened gradually, starting in about 2018 and finally this year, after completing two secondments, I took a permanent position as a member of the advanced practice team. I have almost completed my PG Dip in healthcare education at Sheffield Hallam so it is great to get both perspectives of being a student and a lecturer.

Teaching

School of Health and Social Care

College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences

Subject area or group

As my background is from both emergency medicine and primary care, I enjoy teaching across the different modules for advanced clinical practice, including minor injuries, minor illness, APACS and NMP. I also help with the PA course, both on the clinical modules and the dissertation module.
