About
Before joining Sheffield Hallam University in June 2014, I worked as a District Nurse Team Leader in Sheffield for twelve years. This involved being responsible for the leadership and management of a large team of health care professionals, caring for patients with a variety of complex needs in their own homes, and the community environment. I have been a Practice Teacher since 2007, and have enjoyed supporting District Nursing students through the Specialist Practice District Nursing course.
During my career so far, I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to utilise my nursing skills whilst travelling abroad, in India and Australia. I have experienced the challenges involved in remote working, in environments with extreme poverty and limited physical resources. Whilst in contrast, I have also been able to gain knowledge and understanding of alternative organisational structures within the primary care setting, including working for a company whose ethos was Not-For-Profit, where there were less financial constraints and resources were not limited.
I am passionate about District Nursing and care provision for patients in the community setting. My areas of special interest include Leadership and Management, resilience, End-Of-Life Care and Safeguarding vulnerable adults.
I am a link lecturer supporting District Nursing students on placement in Sheffield, Lincolnshire, Mid Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster.
