Seun Ajao and Shahrzad Zargari have investigated the hypothesis that there is a detectable relationship between sentiment and fake news in social media.

They have thus proposed the use of a sentiment-aware classification technique for online texts and formulated a Rumor Classifier Algorithm to carry out this classification. To verify their hypothesis and evaluate their technique, they performed experiments on a standard Twitter fake news dataset and showed good improvements in detecting fake news, compared to a state-of-the-art algorithm that does not consider sentiment.
